Problem 1:

Organizing a long history of bandaids in EDU UI

With years of updates, EDU expanded way bigger than we originally designed. Also, the team realized some of the features we designed are no longer useful but took space in the home screen or main menus.

With the 6.0.0 updates, we decided to re-organize UI elements on the screen. Also, we decided to enhanced tablet UI since most school users use tablets rather than mobile devices.

Problem 2:

Classroom environment vs. at-Home experience

Sphero EDU app is used on classroom settings with Sphero power pack which has distinctive features compared to at-home users.

Previously, Sphero EDU app mostly focused on individual users. Classroom feature was created with power pack launching but it is not used a lot in the field.

We interviewed teachers and listened to how they use our product in the classroom:

 - 1 session(less than an hour)

 - 20-30 students

 - an individual or a team gets a tablet & a robot

 - Teachers want codes or photos of their in-class activity as an

    assignment of the session.

Class code

Simple classroom experience

The first priority of this feature is getting in and out the students simple and fast. Previous design required Sphero account sign in so it took so much effort to get students in the classroom which contains activities and programs teachers assigned.

We created the system allows students to access classroom without accounts. Students can access the classroom only with 6 digit code the teacher created. To differentiate the users in the class, students can enter their name or select from the list that the teacher made before entering the class.

Landing flow

Divide experience types upfront

Since the classroom is one of the main features of the EDU 6.0.0, also to prevent confusion, we wanted to let users know the new features upfront on the landing page.
